Apart from being congested, things are quite good. I stayed up way too late last night, and I was all gonzoid when I got in. My neighbor at work, sara, she made fun of me for being out of it. I didn't mind, she's allowed. I hazed her really badly when she came in one morning after being out till 4. Gonna see Bubba Ho-Tep friday I think with some friends. We seem to be off monday....[livejournal.com profile] marisolicious, you gonna be home? Actually, scratch that, I'll call ya.

I'm reading "Quicksilver" the new neal stephenson. Booyah. :) Good book. Very tasty. thick too. Kinda like a good steak.

i also just finished Dan Brown's newest, the DaVinci code. All about the Priory of Sion and the Templars. I love this stuff. I read the illuminatus! trilogy awhile ago, and I've got a book of short stories about the Templars, and I've also got another book that's kinda hard to explain, but it boils down to some historian thjinking that the Templars had the mummified head of John the Baptist and they carried it around with them, because it talked to them. No. I'm not kidding.

Secret societies fascinate me. Anyone who goes to great lengths to conceal their existence does too. Did you know that the Masons are actually descended from the Knights Templar? I thought that was so interesting, how they made it from 1100's palestine, to 1307 france, where DeMolay was burnt at the stake, to scotland, where they were established as the Freemasons. And don't even get me started about Rosslyn. OOh, sounds SO close to roswell!

This ends your conspiracy theory portion of today's program. Try the veal, it's delicious.

You are the third person I know that is currently reading the new Stephenson. Clearly, I need to as well.

And you are the second person I know that's read Illuminatus!, not counting myself.

Secret societies and conspiracy theories. Hoo-ah!

It's SO fucking cool, Moobs. Do you read stephenson otherwise? It's sooooooooooo good.

And I <3 robert anton wilson, he also compiled an encyclopedia of conspiracy theories that's worth it's weight in gold.

I have not read anything by Stephenson, but I keep hearing he's right up my alley. He's on the list of "people I intend to read but haven't gotten to yet". :)

You don't have a copy of the illuminatus! trilogy. In fact, I don't even know what you're talking about.

your icon scares the bejeezus outta me.

and my boyfriend's reading that book, too. so what's so good about this guy anyway? the author, not my boy. i already know what's good about him :-p

It's Mr. Zevon. he's dead, he can't do too much damage.

*giggles* Yeah, I know why your boy rocks. We're lucky there are no pictures or videos circulating on the interweb.

Stephenson writes science fiction, but really....fiction about science. Whether it's crypto, or nanotechnology, or the internet, or natural philosophy, like he's writing about now, and he doesn't take it TOO seriously. which is key.

try his first novel, Snow Crash

His earlier stuff was more mainstream science fiction (or rather, cyber punk, if you consider that to be science fiction)
