I have very few words right now.

So many songs. So near and dear to my heart. SO much music. I wish for a quiet comfortable death in his bed, with Ariel, Jordan, and the twins around him.

It's not fair. Not fair at all. Who chooses? Who is the one who says who lives and who dies? Why do god damned stiff artists live to be 80, 90, and one of the few who I care about, the few who I clutch close to my heart when things go to pot, and he's dying. He's going away.

The Inside/Out documentary on zevon was....hard. It was hard to watch. It was hard to watch him recede, to watch his life start to drain away, slowly, day by day, month by month. But what was wonderful was the love that people have for him, and the love that he radiated. He doesn't really give off waves of affections and love when you see him live. But....seeing this was really something. The crinkles in his smile, and the dumb jokes about death and dying.

I taped it.

I'm going to watch it again. Not tonight. But I will.

I can imagine, but I can't understand that kind of feeling for any artist, because I wouldn't know them personally, and so they wouldn't be a friend. That you feel this way, however, is probably a good thing, for all I know.

Anyways, I hope everything turns out well when you do watch it again.

He has an element of virtue...

Tears rolled down my cheeks, I'm not ashamed to say...
I was saddened when Kurt [Cobain] was shot... But Warren, like y ou said
is going out on his own terms. He's someone to be admired.

"If a song seems interesting enough, I let it tell me what it's about. "

and in this instant even though he's dying, I think that the one who "chooses" gave Zevon some slack to tidy up his final work, not many get even that.

Save it for your visit or mine. We'll eat Rocky Road and cry like babies.

Thank you thank you thank you, for introducing me into the world of WZ.

You always have been a rocky road girl, in so many ways.

There will be a viewing when we meet up, rest assured.

You're welcome.

It was on when I went to bed last night and I got stunned like a deer in headlights and watched it again. I can't wait to get his new album.

I know how you feel. Joe Strummer's death really left me shocked and sad. I cried a little when Joey Ramone died. I cried a little more when George Harrison went.

However, on that day yet undetermined when Bono dies, I will most likely be inconsolable. :(

*hugs*

as corny as it sounds, the music will never die.

Of course it won't. That's what makes this all okay. That some kid with a literate bent will listen to some of his music and keep digging through a corpus of wonderful songs and wit and learn to love it like I do.

exactly. Or some song of his will be used in a movie someday, and some kid will be like, "hey, that's cool. I wonder if that Zevon guy has an album out..." and become a fan. :)

It sucks that it takes death to bring fame to so many artists. I've tried to push Zevon and Prine and others on so many people for years and very few would take it in and absorb it like I have. After his death there will be many to hear his music for the first time and it sucks that they will have missed out on so much before. I've seen him in person 3 or 4 times and each was an awesome event.

He broke up a fight at a NY show, then proceeded to tell us this didn't happen at Sting shows.

It was beautiful.
Someday I may need to make a copy of that tape of yours.
