Detroit's musicians don't suffer from the anxiety of not getting signed or not having a connection to get their music in a film. We know from the beginning that it's never gonna happen. no suit from L.A. or New York is going to fly to Detroitto check out a band or hand out business cards. That said, this is a record that documents a time period in Detroit's music history. All of the songs were recorded in the same place with the same microphones and the same amplifiers. Non of the tracks are leftovers from a group's album. Each band brought an excellent song to offer the project. It's a shame that we couldn't highlight all of our town's great bands. But that would be a triple album. Thanks to everyone who contributed and to their influences.-III"
That's the liner note on the "Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit" compilation that I got from EBay recently. There are tracks from a lot of my favorite bands, the paybacks, the detroit cobras, the dirtbombs, the soledad brothers (new!), Bantam Rooster (Thomas Jackson Potter is a bad bad man), and yes, the white stripes.
