Yeah, it's the Von Bondies today.

A buddy of mine on another journally thing goes by Johnny Von Bondie, which I like a lot.

Reading "The Drawing of the Dark" again. What a great novel, I really believe this is powers' best work, however much I loved last call...the mythology that the "california trilogy" lives in (expiration date, last call, earthquake weather) is most clearly explained here, rather than in allegory and hints in the other volumes. Brian Duffy's also one of his more interested protagonists, I like his more active style than Crane's, although Scott ends up a more...spiritual figure, where Duff's more earthy. That, and I like this Fisher King a great deal. That, and Aurelianus is a whole lot of fun as well.

All of yas who like Gaiman, I can't recommend Powers highly enough. Especially those of us who loved American Gods so much. This is in that vein, just a little bit skewed, again.

Good weekend. Friday night, I went to little italy with [livejournal.com profile] sattruckguy and [livejournal.com profile] feroluce. We ate good food and drank good drink, besides enjoying one another's company. It's remarkable how much time we can kill as a collective. And we killed it dead friday night.

Saturday was pretty relaxed. I bought a digital camera friday night, and played with it most of the evening. [livejournal.com profile] moon_beam got lots of very blurry mattpix. If anyone else wants, please write, and I'll post them here under some lj cuts. So, saturday, once I got going, my friend Angie came over and we went to the park, where we got to chat for a while and play with the cam some more. Then, [livejournal.com profile] sattruckguy and I went to Dave and Buster's in the Palisades mall with some of his friends, who I quite like, and played Battletech until midnight. Expensive fun, but quite a good time.

A friend of mine and I were talking about relationships the other night. She opined that you're ready for a relationship when you've come to the conclusion that you might just be single for the rest of your life. I think I'd be quite okay with that. Have my friends, perhaps a lover or two.

Yeah well. Fun entry today.

You liked American Gods? I personally though he was just elaborating on a theme with various deities that he established in Sandman Volume IV: Season of Mists...still, it *was* a good read. Just not my favorite...

What kinda digicam didja get?
: )

I haven't read any sandman stuff. Just because it IS an elaboration doesn't mean it's not a good one. And my point was, go read some Tim Powers, pain in the ass.

I bought a fuji. It's nice. You'll see results later./

I disagree. He used large numbers of gods in both, true, but in Sandman he had nothing whatsoever about more modern "gods", nor anything else similar. I think it reflects a common fascination, but not necessarily a direct connection.

Well, okay so not a "direct" connection...Here's what I probably should have said(?): I suspect he had the idea a long time ago, or at least maybe he wanted to do more with a gathering of various gods...particularly Odin, for he's brought back at various points in the Sandman series...or maybe the idea is a spinoff, or...or it could be anything really.
*shrugs*
