last night.
Aug. 19th, 2004 10:21 amI came home last night at 2:30 am, after leaving the venue at about 1am.
I got over to the Knit at like eight or so, but the doors didn't open for a while. I didn't see the crime and judy crew, so I sat down with a Laphraoig over ice while I was waiting. it was okay. I've had...glenfiddich or glenmorangie, I forget which, I liked that better. I was reading my book on the new york dolls and relaxing. There were an innumerable quantity of long island jailbait chickies. Had to love that.
They arrived kinda late, Keith explaining to me as he ran by that they had broken down on the way from rochester. You know...I was thinking, did they break down in Monroe? That would ahve been fucking freaky. But they were busy. I helped load in a lil bit, just grabbed a suitcase or two.
The show was aces. I saw a CT band called grooveski, and if they're the opener for any show you see locally, I recommend them. Noisy, punky, sounds like buildings falling down meets a little bit of the shangri las.
I got reacquainted with the band. Besides keith that is. Their guitarist is genius, really good. His name's willie. Their vocalists are pretty damned good too, Angelique and India. They do this cool harmony/disharmony thing which I like a lot. Kind of Xy but not, you know? Angelique looks like she belongs in Williamsburg, which when I communicated to the other peoples in the band nearly killed them. The rhythm section is tighter than....well, pretty damned tight. Keith's an old pro, by which I don't mean he's OLD, but that he's a professional, and stylin' to boot. And Dan on drums is steady. And then there's Cathy on violin. She's awesome, and adds a real twist to the band.
And I have a crush on her. But no telling anyone!
They had about a ten song set, all new stuff. I really enjoyed it. Small space, sound qual was eh, and I didn't catch the lyrics. But I liked it a lot.
OH! I forgot to mention the Slats, who came on b4 c&j. Man. So many hooks, so little time. And just a little abrasive, at times the guitars sounded kinda like big black. I'm listening to the record today. It's pretty freakin' good. And the drummer's a cool guy.
So I stayed after everyone's set, sitting and talking with keith and willie. Cathy got CRAZY Drunk. I love hanging with drunk people who aren't morose and sad, like I get when I drink. They want me to go on tour with them. I find that idea ridiculous and silly, but hey, who am I to turn 'em down if I have the time?
