Aug. 13th, 2004 01:31 pmLiving this close to jersey...*looks out the window of work at the TC path station*, I want to comment on the McGreevey resignation.
Am I proud that the guvnor has come out of the closet? Right as rain I am. Good for him.
His administration was corrupt on a scale that surprises me, even for New Jersey. He hired a foreign national who was his lover in a homeland security position. He can't have a security clearance, people. Man or woman, this is wrong. This is patronage and nepotism at its worst, and he should resign, gay or not gay. And I think that instead of lionizing him for it, perhaps he should be demonized for using his sexuality as a mitigating factor for his malfeasance.
I'm sick of sexuality being used as some justifying factor for this.
Flame the fuck away, I'm irritated.

Date: 2004-08-13 04:21 pm (UTC)His sexuality has nothing to do with what happened. The fact that he cheated? A relatively minor gaffe. However, putting an unqualified person into a position of power because of their relationship? Yeah. that wasn't okay. And he needs to say 'I was wrong, and I'm quitting because I was wrong' instead of making it sound like his sexuality is the issue here.

Date: 2004-08-13 04:58 pm (UTC)I guess that I'm irritated that new jersey, which is a greater terrorist target than most other states of the union, had a situation like this where a lot of harm could have been done.
