1) Parenting.

This kind of stuff is always with me. So I've been thinking about it again. I believe that parents have to parent, that is, they have to raise their kids in positive way. I think my parents did an okay job with me, and they always have kept their hand in, wanted to know what was going on with me, and laid a foundation of trust and love, so I could always tell them stuff that was bothering me, and that works to this day. I've considered proposing a "license" to procreate once or twice. However, in a way I think that's just as bad as anti choice activism. So forget that. I dunno. I feel like you should have a sense of what's at stake when you have possibly procreative sex. And I think that some of our young people in this country don't think before they fuck.

2) K-Rock.

Man, I haven't found a radio station I can listen to in such a long time. K-Rock's filling the bill right now. I heard "walk idiot walk", "Killing in the name" and a decent track that's probably audioslave, I know it's Chris Cornell, and it ain't Soundgarden, and I don't think it's Temple of the Dog. So yeah. But then, there was a good bit of dross in there, so I had to turn it off repeatedly. Then I heard something transcendent. While leads me to

3) This track.

I was listening to K Rock, and I'm just chilling, and then this track comes on. it sounds like mid tempo Happy Mondays, except the singer can actually sing. But the guitar is right on it, and the rhythm section is in lock. I'm intrigued. I'm enjoying this, a song on the radio I've never heard before, and yet I'm transfixed.

What is it?

Modest Mouse. I've heard modest mouse before. I'ev downloaded tracks. I couldn't stand them. This album, if this song was representative, could be HUGE. Luvvit. I'm sorry that I'm not going to either show this coming week.

Wha...? Modest Mouse not sucking? I'll have to hear it before I believe it.

About parenting: I think it's got to be a much more fundamental shift. I mean, I've joked about parenting licenses, but it'd never work in reality. I also joke about how we should be allowed to kill stupid people, and... well, ok, that I'd be in favor of in reality.

But it has to start at the very beginning. Children need to be taught discipline, respect, thoughtfulness, and love (and not in that order). They need to think about the consequences of their actions, they need to think about what it means not only to themselves but also to the people around them, and they need to learn to be responsible adults. If we do that from the very beginning, then all of the concerns about pregnancy and child-rearing and stuff would go away, because we'd have a society where people shared burdens, where they helped each other, where people valued each other and where people couldn't help but raise their children in a positive light.

And of course this is also assuming we got to kill all of the stupid people who'd drag my theory down.

But seriously - nothing'll fix it. Things like sexual education at a younger age and in a more positive manner would help. More places where teens could get access to literature, to tests, to free condoms, all of that kind of stuff, that'd help. A society where respect was considered a huge, important thing rather than something that only worked for people who were too poor to be able to treat people like shit, that'd help too. A society where we didn't pump people up who go around leaving children in their wake, rock stars and atheletes (and matheletes), but instead forced them to take responsibility for bringing those lives into the world and looked down upon them for the damage and pain they caused - that'd help.

Incidentally, it'd also improve our government, our standing in the world, our crime rate... but, oh, yeah, that's too much trouble for people. Eh, forget about it, just turn the damn tv on and let the little brats amuse themselves.

I enjoy Modest Mouse. Some of the songs I'm not too fond of, but they do have some that are really great. I fell in love with them when I first heard Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, although.. that song has a bit of a different sound than the rest of their music.

Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
you're the good things
3rd planet
I came as a rat

They do have a different kind of sound to them, so I understandw hy some people don't like them. Although, their newest CD has more of a mainstream sound to it, from what I've heard.
