Jul. 6th, 2004 11:04 pmI'm listening to Theodore Roosevelt Taylor right now, AKA Hound Dog. HDT, for short for now, I've heard a lot of distorted guitar in my time, including Pat Hare and Jackie Brenston. Ain't nothing matches Hound Dog. Six fingers on one of his hands, Brewer Philips, the second guitarist, related a story where he woke up, saw Hound Dog with a shotgun, wherein Hound Dog said "Look, Brewer!" and shot him in the leg with birdshot. Started his recording career at 55.
I dig this shit. A whole lot. Because it's messy, it's distorted, it's bluesy, it's what I want music to be like. Music shouldn't be pro-toolsed to death, it shouldn't be produced to the point that it doesn't feel organic anymore.
