What's the objection to marketing a band, within certain constraints? There's the rub, I know. Here's how I'm thinking. Why not sell your band's t shirt? Why not sell stickers and pins if that's what your fans want? Charge reasonable prices, make them available, why not? I wasn't brought up on fugazi or hardcore, the ethic is understandable to me, as in I see where they're coming from, but I guess I like to have "stuff".
I find that those who are most rigorous within that ethic are those who, if they were doing something along those lines, wouldn't need the money. But then, what do I know.
