Listening to Bill Hicks today, esp when he's talking about the first Gulf war. Shocking, really, how similar the commentary is as to what I'm thinking.

1) A war is two armies fighting. Major conflict? Not so much.

2) A distraction from domestic issues.

3) The one difference? Casualty count.

Why did we think we could walk in here and be lauded as heroes? THEY DON'T LIKE US.

Sorry.

That doesn't make it better or less painful.

"We" thought we could walk in there and be lauded as hero's because that's what was necessary for the people to believe so that the war could begin in the first place.

Just like we needed WMD, or the other 27 different reasons we were given for the war.

Adding my two cents, you should see what the Canuck papers have to say about the situation in Iraq. Very interesting differences in how the war is portrayed between Toronto and Buffalo newspapers.

Yeah, Bill Hicks says what people are only comfortable thinking. He has the guts, and he makes it funny!

Too bad he's dead. I can imagine him being onstage.

"Dubya."

And just one of those laughs that only Bill could give us.
