I love this song. Lee Hazelwood wrote and produced this for Nancy Sinatra. It's so funny about the best songs aren't necessarily sung by those with the best voices. Nancy's a great vocalist, but not the best voice. Funny how that is. OH! And it's also funny about how some singing voices are SO not like speaking voices. I have met the mastermind behind The Jeta Grove (speak up, buddy), and it's SO funny that his speaking voice is SO unlike his singing voice! I love it. It's like those chinese scholars who accidentally stripped the paint and daub backing off a 17th century tapestry, only to find the only extant example of 10th century textile art.

I digress.

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I don't know how many of you know, but my uncle Joel had a heart attack this week. He's fine, no worries, but I realize that I want to go out and see him out in bellport more often. I hate that I don't see my family more often, and not just the brooklyn axis. I have family in Stamford, CT, in Wisconsin, and in FLA. My cousin Joey has a standing offer to entertain me in Miami.

I shoudl go.

I'm glad your uncle is okay. And I've heard lovely things about Miami, so I agree that you should go.

and that song is an anthem. It's inspired a scene in a book I'm working on.

*chuckle* Being a vocalist, I certainly know how the best voices aren't always the best singers. And the variance between singing and speaking voice.

My speaking voice is perky and cheerful; I've been told I sound like one of those eternally happy receptionists.

My singing voice has been described to me as a mint julep - cool, sweet, easy to like, and intoxicating. I rather liked that description. Ask me nice and I might send you a clip.

I used to like that song. Then I used it for a video editing project. ANY song gets really irritating after you hear 5-10 second bits of it over and over again during the editing process.
