Feb. 25th, 2004 01:21 pm1. Who is your favorite band or artist?
Warren Zevon, Biotch!
2. At what age did you find out about them?
Beyond werewolves of london? Seventeen/eighteen, the summer I met up with this friend at camp when I was working, and he lent me learning to flinch.
3. Were they still making music when you discovered them?
He was on hiatus then, during the retirement. After mutineer.
4. Of all their records, which is your favorite and why?
Life'll Kill Ya/I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. Life'll Kill Ya was the renaissance. It may not have sold much, but it was what brought him back into the public eye. And I'll Sleep When I'm Dead is the two disk set with booklet, telling good zevon stories. It's SO much better than Genius, which doesn't have the good songs for the latter part of his career.
5. Of all their songs, which is your favorite and why?
Carmelita. I love the mariachi guitar. I love that he references places I know and have been now.
6. Which is your least favorite of their albums and why?
Mutineer. Overproduced home studio crap. And he knew it too. Oh well! At least it got him away from Giant.
7. Which is your least favorite of their songs and why?
Frank And Jesse James. Go ahead, Warren. Lionize killers and thugs. I love you anyway.
8. Have you seen them live? If so, where and when?
Yes. Twice at irving plaza. Three or four times at The Bowery Ballroom. And once at the Stone Poney in Asbury Park New Jersey.
9. Do you collect rare recordings by this band/artist? If so, what is your favorite of these recordings?
I do. I have a copy of "Stand in the Fire" on tape, which is a fabulous live set that has NOT been released on CD, more's the pity. And "Primate Discourse", an interview/song disk put out in the aftermath of "Life'll Kill Ya". Oh, and a bootleg set at the HOB in N'awlins, Warren and Jill Sobule together.
10. Recite your favorite lyric of theirs.
I'm lucky to be here
With someone I like
Who maketh my spirit to shine.
