Just finished Danny Goldberg's book about the american left and what they need to do to marshal support for themselves again. He's got some very important points. Democrats aren't going to get archie bunker to vote for them. Plain and simple. We need to reach out to young people, like Dean has done, and talk about the issues that are important to them, like the environment. I think that's partially why Gore didn't win in '00. He may not be a good environmentalist, but at least he's done SOMETHING. As opposed to George. Drilling in ANWR might get us a day's supply. Maybe.

Irony of the day: You get a tax credit for buying a Hummer.

well, i know it sounds bad, but compared to the republican incumbant... i'd vote for the marvin the martian if he was the democrat on the ticket... and so would most of my friends.
anyone that runs on the liberal ticket is at least a step better than monkey boy.

Yes, but the problem is most people our age do not vote. They don't see a difference. Bill Hicks said, at one point, that the same guy's holding both puppets. I can only hope there's some difference this time, but I'm not holding my breath.

Have you ever visited truemajority.org? A friend pointed me to the site and they seem like they are gunning for issues that affect the people and what they want, not what the government seems to think is right.
My family is totally republican because they said that the party does not intrude on people's lives. I don't really agree with them.

And don't you think that Dean might be a *little* looney.

I'll take a look at it.

And if Dean can energize the youth and MAKE the democrats take notice of their energy, I'll take his candidacy.

He does have the energy! And you're right, not enough young people vote. I remember the big Rock the Vote stuff, but I don't really see it much anymore. They've gotta keep at it to make people realize that if they want something to happen, they have to cast their vote!

Even more ironic: Isn't it related to if you run a small business and *need* a Hummer or an SUV?

the HUMMV, per the law, because of its particular dimensions qualifies as farm machinery. Individuals who buy farm machinery, because of the paucity of family owned farms, and a government who in some small ways wants to encourage and preserve the individual farmer, are given a tax credit. Hummer=farm machinery=tax credit. I personally believe in the idea of penalties handed out by the EPA to any auto manufacturer whose autos in a certain class do not perform to certain MPG standards. But then, I'm not a member of the petroleum or auto industries.

We need to reach out to young people,
That's what Clinton did for sure and it worked. Remember the MTV "what kind of underwear..." question? It made him a huge hit. Hell, I even liked the guy then.

You are also correct that younger people do not vote. In fact a lot of people in general just don't vote when it matters the most.

Dean is spooky to me.

I don't think for this election that there is anything any Democratic candidate can do to win. Unless something bizarre comes out like Bush has been getting blow jobs from an intern or someth....no wait, that would make the Democrats vote for him. ha ha

If the people who always vote only vote, then you're right.

I like Dean. I think after George W. we need a Dean to make this country one I can truely be proud of again, and the youth of this country most definatly needs a Dean, someone who truely cares about us, and issues that are important to us. It's nice that someone recognizes that we are the future of this country.

No doubt a holdover from the Clinton administration...

No doubt. I never said that this administration passed it.

Is this what you are talking about? THIS legislation that passed during Dubya's reign, as part of the "economic stimulus plan'?

Well....to be fair, most of the legislation existed since the 80's, but the bonus depreciation tax break was passed by this administration. Kind of the icing on the proverbial cake.
