Gran's feeling a lot better. I think it was the best wishes from you guys. She's eating, talking a lot more, and gave my dad the look of death several times. I think that's a good sign, don't you?

Say Buddy Guy and John Mayer last night. John Mayer? Motherf*cker can actually play the blues. He played "Cold Shot" which was kinda natural since on bass and drums were Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, the original Double Trouble rhythm section. Close your eyes and you were blown away. I mean, it's John Mayer! All kinds of teeny bopper girls (my apologies to [livejournal.com profile] sweet_november, but there were>) in the house, and this kid playing his heart out....that's how it ought to be. Although.....the blues is a dangerous thing. The men don't know, but the little girls understand.

You know...

Dude, I f*cking hate it, but.... he's got talent. Damn it.

Live stuff always seems to surprise me, regardless of the musicians.

I'll take your word for it. However, his AOR-friendly original work that I've heard does not demonstrate this talent.

It just makes my ears bleed.

mmmm....

In all fairness, most great musicians made people's ear's bleed when they first got started.

Is he a great musician? To me... Most certainly not.
Though I'd only like to chime in once more to say that he does have a degree of talent, which was off putting me since i hate him for blatently ripping of the DMB.

A few, I suppose. Any specific examples?

I'm not saying he doesn't have some potential (despite the fact that his voice drives me bonkers). He's also still legions better than Jason Mrazarazmatazz (or whatever his name is) and some of the others out there.

You're right about him ripping off DMB's sound, though - I have had arguments with people about how "Your Body is a Wonderland" and "Bigger than my Body" are NOT DMB or from Dave Matthews's solo album.

Why are people so dumb? It burns us, it does...

Give the kid some credit. He wears those STUPID HATS better than I would.

I beg to differ - Jason Mraz has at least five songs that would knock "The Remedy" into a cocked hat.

"Absolutely Zero", specifically, is in my opinion a bettersong than anything John Mayer's released yet.

*grins* And I'm far enough out of my teens to look at it somewhat objectively. :)

I love John Mayer AND Jason Mraz, but you're right. Songs like "Sleeping to Dream," "You and I Both" and "Too Much Food" are why I adore me some Mraz.

Well, "The Remedy" hurt my ears so completely I couldn't even contemplate further listening. So I'll take you at your word. I'm not dismissing him out of hand, but I really don't get the attraction to these guys.

This is true. I think that's why I love the Black Keys so much. For the record, I've always liked John Mayer--and I'll take all the Mayer smack you can dish.

Good to hear about your grandmother. I've been thinking about you a lot.
