Finally whipped out the copy of "Elephant" OB made for me.

1) Oh shit.

2) Jack White plays like no one I can think of readily.

I didn't like the white stripes when they began. It was me trying to be all "Other cool shit out there." Well, I've listened to a LOT of other cool shit that's out there within the genre and location. And fuck me.....no one reaches this. Not the dirtbombs, not the detroit cobras, not the paybacks, not even the von bondies. And I love those bands. But.....these two people, jack and meg.....I don't know what it is, either. It's alchemy. This may be one of the best records I own. And yes, I own beatles, stones, black flag, the minutemen, all kinds of good shit. I have to buy this. I think I feel disgusted that I didn't. I have a real conflict in mind about burning and mp3 trading. I see it as a test drive, adn if you REALLY like it, get it. And I've test driven a lot of bands.

Still irritated. But better than yesterday.

So you don't dig their first album? It is so raw and hardcore.

Oh yes. Quite.

I liked De Stijl better. But "The Big Three Killed My Baby" was awesome!

:) oh man...that song. <3 :D I have always wondered this..I am sure it is just pure coincidence. Do these two songs have anything in common? Probably not, but I have always wondered.

The Big Three Killed My Baby-The White Stripes
and
The KKK Took My Baby Away-Ramones

It made Rolling Stone's Top 500, and with good reason. Not that the Top 500 didn't piss me off a lot, but I was glad to see something more than just the Beatles up there. Pretty happy with seeing Portishead, Liz Phair, and especially My Bloody Valentine.

i'm not one to question a person's taste in music, so i won't comment on some bands...
my suggestion, when someone asks me what i'm into, is to listen to the cruxshadows (if you've not heard of them) and usually system of a down when you're looking mainstreem...

you'd be amazed at my awesomely small collection of music... you see, i think some thing are a great concept, but then they get ruined for a taste of fame... if you like the guitar and drum thang... wait until a good friend of mine gets off his ass and records some of his shit.. *laughs*

I like this. its' good. It's not as good as some other stuff, like the Black Keys. Same idea, but swampy blues. Really distorto blues. I luff that.

i just think i honestly caught them after they were good... i was told their earlier stuff was better. ;) i have a tendency to not like things after they hit MTV and to continue to loathe them until they fade from teeny-bopper adoration...
that, and at the same time i heard them, i was mostly listening to cruxshadows, bella morte, thoushaltnot, hungry lucy, voltaire, folk fiction, skin machine...

I'll have to check those out.

And yeah. the early shit, the first and second albums are ridiculous. Ri dic u lous.

Give the Von Bondies a try. Lack of Communication.

De Stijl's my fave right now. And there's a song off the "Sympathetic Sounds of Detroit" comp that blows 90% of their other recorded output away.

But shit. This is a hella good album.

Don't have De Stijl (a friend owes me a combo mix of both early albums) and what song was on the comp?

De stijl is fan fucking tastic.

It has "Your southern can is mine". That's a great song, blind willie mctell I think.

Red Death at 6:14. It's classic twelve bar blues....but from venus. Trust me. Makes sense.

I love Jack and Meg (no sarcasm) but is anything they ever going to play going to match the sound of the first fifteen or twenty seconds of Led Zeppelin's When The Levee Breaks (let alone the whole damn song)...I didn't think so. Heh.

Interesting to hear your opinion, cause I like what I've heard of the White Stripes on the radio, but I couldn't decide whether I was liking it as this-is-pretty-cool-but-it-will-bore-me-soon or just this-is-cool.

Worth picking up, at least the three I've heard, the first, second, and fourth albums. A nice corpus of work, not just one song.

Jack White has fully come out of the blues-closet. The kid can jam. I love the fact that they mixed this album with ancient equipment, so it has a very warm round feel to it.

And, I would so do him in a split second to boot.
