Something that happened today made me think.

I have, comparatively, few male LJ friends. How about you all? Which do you have more of? Even if you don't usually comment, drop a dime on this one, K?

32 female friends out of 48 (non-community) friends total. Exact 2-to-1 ratio.

A couple of things to consider, in my case:

1. Some people have more than 1 LiveJournal account -- to give an example that I know is not particularly confidential, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] is also odriana, the latter being her SCA-persona-specific journal. She is also, technically, lstrobel, the journal that focuses on her daughter Lake. The posts might all be ABOUT Lake, but Fianna's still the one writing them. In my case, all the people on my friends list who maintain more than one journal are female.

2. Overall, as I posted about in the past, I've noticed that if I have both people in a heterosexual relationship on my friends list, the female is the more frequent poster, with the exception of chaoticgoodnik and blackpaladin, who seem to be about equal. :) Quite a few women that I have LJ-friended have male SOs that don't use LJ but would be immediate friends-list adds if they did - niamh1 and waterfaery come to mind. That would at least somewhat equalize my list.

I've got almost 2 times as many women on my friends list as men. Which is about how it is in real life, too. I've always gotten along with women better than men. I played double dutch and house and stuff like that with the girls in my neighborhood when as I kid. (When I wasn't playing with my GI Joes and Transformers, I mean. :P) The girls were the only kids in my age range. Actually, the only male friends I currently have are guys I met from LJ. :)

There are forty-five users on my list. Of that 45, 17 are male.

Also needing to take into account that some people have more than one username. If I counted correctly, there are 39 people actually reading my journal. So 17/39 in favor of le girlies.

Lets see, more male friends than females..but the numbers are not as significant as I thought it would be. Same way in real life -- I tend to have more male friends than females. But if we're talking about close friends, I can just count a handful. ;p
