Nothing lately, and I do mean nothing, lifts my spirits more than the CD I made a couple of months ago. It has: Thin Lizzy, T Rex, Lovage (ooh, love the lovage baby), The Electric Six (yes, both of them songs), and Portishead. That, and I've got in line after this, Singles Going Steady by the Buzzcocks, which I think has some of the best love songs ever on it, and The Terrible Truth About Burma, the MofB live album I picked up years ago. I'm going to offend the world, but at a peak, Burma was MUCH better than REM. There, I've said it. ;)

I was in such a crappy mood before i put my earphones on today. And now most everything is right in the world.

Everyone, welcome [livejournal.com profile] galatea_world, fellow new yorker, law student, and all around cool woman.

Dummy's on right now. It sounds like the soundtrack to a nonexistent bond movie, but the lyrics speak to a guy who's on a date with a girl, and she's snuck out the bathroom window, and it hasn't dawned on him yet.

Love the lovage. The next woman I date is in some serious trouble if she hears the lovage. *laughs* Love Jennifer Charles' voice.

In all the years I've had Dummy, I don't think I ever noticed the words. Just let the sound flow over me. I think maybe once I looked up the words to Glory Box..have you heard the Velvet Chain cover of Sour Times?

I have all the Elysian Fields CDs..I (heart) Jennifer Charles..well, I don't have the new one yet but I don't think it's available in the US yet. Do you listen to Firewater too?

No, but if it's good, I'd love to.
I don't know Jennifer from anywhere but lovage. What's a firewater? ;)

Firewater is Tod Ashley's band after Cop Shoot Cop. It's where I first heard Jennifer--she does vocals on two songs on their first album and one song on their third.

They're like..klezmer rock.

Start at "Get Off The Cross--We Need More Wood For The Fire" and go from there. The second track "Bourbon and Division" is awesome. It's like a klezmer tango.

And if you really like it, see ya in a month at the show :)

You don't. :) I went to [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar's friend page instead of mine to see if anyone we both like had updated, and the word Lovage jumped out at me.

I abhor posting in strangers' journals, so feel sooooo special :P

True dat.

And now I'm utterly abusing the 50-lj-icon thing. (Telling myself "pick something else! a different one!") Hee.
