I didn't buy "The Complete Fun House Sessions" when it came out. To date, EVERYONE I KNOW who owns it says it's ridiculously amazing. I was envious at the time, and still am. Seventeen takes of "TV Eye"? Okay! Twenty two takes of "Loose"? ROCK! Amazing. My friend Keith says he'll send it to me. But I still look for it.
Scratch that. They topped it.
Most of you don't know this, but one of my musical idols is Captain Beefheart, AKA Don Van Vliet. I can't even really explain the Captain's music, except that he had the best voice EVER for music, and a cracked sense of the blues, jazz, and rock music that dazzles me, even today. David Byrne said that it sounded like three different bands playing three different songs in the same room. With dada lyrics.
Rhino Handmade has released a book called "Riding Some Kind of Unusual Skull Sleigh". It's $520. It's postcard sized repros of sixty of his greatest paintings and drawings. With another book of photos. Plus a DVD. Plus a spoken word CD.
Have you ever heard me say that I MUST have something? Ever?
