I used to believe in the whole "automatic writing", first drafts are best, editing is for punks school of writing. Not that y'all are punks, but that I really didn't need to edit to make my stuff work.
Wow. I am SO wrong.
I wrote a music piece today that really was nowhere near as good as what I was formulating. And yet, it's out there already. "Oh, I don't need to edit, I am GREAT WRITER OF DOOM". Yeah. WHatever dude.
I've begun noting and outlining more already; it helps to extend what have become short pieces into the medium form essays that I want to be able to present. The ideas that I've got lend themselves to exploration; short sharp shocks are not what I necessarily want/need. The question becomes, then....how do I turn a 400 word piece into a 3,500 word piece? Even if it's not for "publication", I need to extend and elaborate my points.
