I keep having weird story ideas. I've been reading a ton lately (some re reads, but some new stuff too) and that always makes the juices flow. Last night I just took the juices and made some lesson plans, but fiction is blooming in my head. We'll see what I can make of it!

For some reason, veterans figure a lot in my plots. I don't know zactly why, but I think it's the damage. Writing well adjusted characters...I don't know. I mean no disrespect to those who fight for our country, indeed I respect them deeply. But combat changes people. And I think I'd like to write about someone like that. My grampa Joe was a tanker in wwii, and he told a story about parking the tank in a barn and walking off to have a piss, turning around to come back...and having the barn hit by an 88 shell, destroying tank, barn, and several of his mates. He reckoned that every day from then on was gravy. That's an interesting attitude, and I kind of respect the shit out of him for it, among other things. THere's a real joie de vivre that I don't always have. Writing about him helps me capture it for myself, you know?

With a story like your granfather's it's no wonder you have an obsession. That's one hell of a story that needs to be told!
