Really cool weekend. Minus a truly catastrophic event.

Friday: [livejournal.com profile] dirtbombsfan1 came in at about eight or so. Picked her up at the airport. Called our mutual friend (mine from rl, hers from the intardwebs) Eric, who brought his buddy Phil. We all met up at my favorite hookah bar (which is quickly becoming NOT a place I want to go ever again). We sat and talked for hours about geekery and music and other assorted shenanigans. It came to light fairly quickly that Eric and DBF hadn't gotten along on the interwebs...but they got on famously in person. It was cheering to see them together. I know it was for me, anyway!

We proceeded from there to Pianos, where Phil's roomie Kaz's band was playing at like 11. The band before them was reminiscent of good jazz rock, kinda steely dan sans guitars. Which is not a bad thing at all.

Then Kaz's band came on. The lead guitarist had this pedal with the gain on it digitally, and as he pressed the pedal, it went to 11. So I HAD to comment. And the guitarist laughed.

That was the high point of the set. Because the lead singer...well, How do I put this?

-leather jacket.
-leather shoes.
-black t shirt.
-EYEPATCH.

We reserved judgment UNTIL THE FIRST WORDS CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH AND THEY WERE A MEWL THE LIKES OF WHICH CAME FROM SATAN'S MOUTH.

I bit my lip so hard I almost drew blood. DBF turned her back to the stage as she was laughing so hard she nearly cried. Eric's reaction was best. He had this "wait. WHAT????" look on his face that made me laugh HARDER.

We left the venue, and I drove eric home. That was friday night.

Saturday was shenanigans at the museum. I'm not going to go into details, but I'll say this. If you're gonna invite someone somewhere to hang out, hang out with them.

From there, we proceeded down to the movie theater that Eric works at to hang out for a bit. Timing really sucks sometimes, folks. After that, we went to This Is Burlesque at Corio. It's awesome. It's hot, but not trashy. And I dig it a lot. Much props to the Pontani sisters.

Sunday was...well, it started really well. Got going in a leisurely fashion, walked around lower manhattan for hours and hours. Really did things the way I think you should on a sunday. Showed DBF around my favorite places down there. Many photos were taken!

...And then I got a call from friends at work. My technology mentor had passed away that morning. And that swept everything away. I'm functional, but tired and not really happy right now. I've talked to god a couple of times today and I have not gotten a satisfying answer yet. It's funny. My gram passed over the holidays, and I felt almost more relieved than anything. This has brought me...anger. And sadness. And a general feeling of unhappiness at life. I am not depressed. I am sad.

I'll tell some Carmen stories this week.
